Summary:
This paper discusses the application of knowledge engineering to the computer-aided design of variable-speed electric drives. In particular, an effort is made to extend the traditional mathematical optimization of those drives. Throughout, drives based on the variable-reluctance motor are used to illustrate the main issues.
